The 2 Day Desert Trip from Marrakech to Merzouga takes you from the colorful chaos of Marrakech to the calm, endless dunes of the Sahara. Along the way, you’ll discover breathtaking landscapes, ancient kasbahs, and warm Berber hospitality.
You will cross the High Atlas Mountains via Tizi n’Tichka Pass, visit the UNESCO-listed Aït Ben Haddou Kasbah, and travel through the Valley of Roses. The highlight is a camel trek at sunset across the golden Erg Chebbi dunes, followed by an overnight stay in a Berber desert camp.
There, you’ll enjoy a Moroccan dinner, Berber music around a campfire, and a night under the stars. The next morning, you’ll witness a spectacular Sahara sunrise before returning to Marrakech via the lush Ziz Valley and Rissani market.
Your adventure begins with an early morning pick-up from your accommodation in Marrakech. You’ll travel in a private air-conditioned vehicle, crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass at 2,260 meters, offering stunning panoramic views.
Along the way, you’ll stop at the UNESCO World Heritage site of Aït Ben Haddou, a beautiful clay kasbah featured in films like Gladiator and Game of Thrones. You’ll then continue through the Valley of Roses and the dramatic Dades Valley, passing traditional Berber villages and ancient kasbahs.
By late afternoon, you’ll arrive in Merzouga at the edge of the golden Erg Chebbi dunes. As the sun begins to set, you’ll enjoy a camel trek across the soft sand — one camel per person. You’ll reach your desert camp just in time for sunset. There, you’ll have a traditional Moroccan dinner, gather around a campfire with Berber music, and sleep under a blanket of stars in a comfortable tent (standard or luxury options available).
Wake up early to witness a spectacular sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes — the colors shift from deep blue to glowing gold, creating an unforgettable moment. After breakfast at the camp, you’ll ride your camel back to Merzouga village (or take a 4×4 if you prefer), where your driver will be waiting.
Leaving the desert behind, you’ll travel through the lush Ziz Valley, a stunning oasis lined with thousands of palm trees. You’ll then stop in Rissani, a traditional market town known for its lively souks and authentic Berber atmosphere.
Next, you’ll cross the Anti-Atlas Mountains, with ever-changing desert landscapes around every bend. Your driver will make several photo and refreshment stops along the way. By evening, you’ll arrive back in Marrakech and be dropped off at your accommodation, marking the end of your short but unforgettable Sahara adventure.
